The Revolutionary Art of Emory Douglas

The Revolution will be Visualized

Emory Douglas is unquestionable an artist. Art reflects things as they are, as they should be, and as could be. A former member of the Black Panther Emory was the illustrator and resident artist for The Black Panther Newspapers. His work reflected the realities of life in the sixties and seventies for Afro Americans in American. (We was just Black folks then and proud and learning to be proud of it) The most complicated concepts can be expressed in a painting or photograph. It has been said a picture is often worth a thousand words.

Emory told the story of America racism and injustice as it twas, as it ought to be, and what it would be if America continued to oppress it's own. His voice was that of those who were ignored and unheard by he affluent and powerful . Who were tired of marching, begging, and pleading for equality. Those who were not about to to be attacked without retaliation. Those who saw a complete change , a revolution as the only way to make a better life for their families and their race. Panthers were the children of Malcolm X; young folks that understood the realities of the Ballot or the Bullet, who were not afraid of Revolution.

From the moment Huey P. Newton stood up against his own Police Brutality America would never be the same for Black folks. Those riding in Beemers and Mersades would not be doing so had American no had to ace the reality of either sharing some of the pie or facing an Armed struggle in it's urban areas waged by folks who like present day Palestinians felt they had nothing more to lose.

This post is about Emory Douglas , a black man, a artist, a member of the Black Panther Party... In memory of all the former Panthers in prisons, still on the run, or who made the ultimate sacrifice . H. Rap Brown, Mumia, Michael Baynum, Larry Powell, Little Bobby, Ronald Irwin and thousands of others wo gave up careers , lifes, and freedom to help move our people forward. Thanks you my brothers. God bless you. Panthers 4 Life.
